Review: I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Vanessa at a Sisterhood breakfast and hear her inspirational talk on resilience. It was here that I won her book, as my business share prize. Thank you Vanessa for this inspiring book for us wannabe entrepreneurs!

What’s the best way to get advice? To get it from those who have walked the path before you & to share a table with those who are more experienced than you are. Successful Business entrepreneur Vanessa Langford is one such women, who has walked the long hard road of building a successful business: As her title of her book says “from the toilet to the top.” What started as just 1 domestic worker, herself, a bucket & a need to put bread on the table, Vanessa has managed to build for herself & her three boys, a legacy of a successful family cleaning service. Her steadfast determination & sheer grit & her defiance to never quit, no matter how many obstacles were thrown at her, is the reason why Vanessa deserves all the success & accolades she has managed to obtain; including winning The BWA Regional Achievers Award, after shortly opening her business! Wow! She is a very strong woman, who has managed to build for herself a business from very humble beginnings! She is impressive & inspirational! In Vanessa’s first book “From the toilet to the top” she tells us her heartfelt story through her eyes, of what it took to build her successful business, out of need & circumstances beyond her control. There is a realness in her writing & she expresses herself authentically with her reader, with humility throughout the chapters. Her book is easy to read & offers practical and insightful advice to us wannabe entrepreneurs; of what to do & what not to do as young entrepreneurs. I especially loved the last three chapters which I found very helpful. This book is a map of guidelines about what it means to be “a student of life” & not only an entrepreneur. Vanessa shows us how nothing comes without hard work. To get to the top takes sacrifice & if you have to clean a shower in your formal work clothes, to get the job done, then so be it! As Vanessa so humorously says “fried chicken doesn’t fall from the sky.” You have to do the hard work to get the results! Nothing comes without elbow grease & daily dedication! Entrepreneurship is no walk in the park, but with Vanessa’s life experiences & helpful guidance & mentoring, she makes the path a little easier to see & understand & navigate for aspiring young entrepreneurs like myself. This is Vanessa’s story of not only her journey towards becoming a successful business woman but becoming & being a self empowered one too! You go girl!
